Dani and Dave Rosenthal of dave's mini donuts.

OPERATING OUT OF A 10' BY 20' JUNGLE GREEN FOOD-GRADE TENT adorned with flags and “all the fixin’s on the top,” husband-wife business partners Dave and Dani Rosenthal and their small but loyal crew have faithfully served Renaissance fairs and music festivals from New England to Florida. dave's mini donuts offers a menu boasting fresh, quality items amid otherwise questionable fair-food.

In addition to providing their customers with sweet treats, Dave and Dani are also the source for a sweet story.

The couple was married about two months ago, and they their nuptials by doing what they love – serving those that they love.  Be it flipping doughnuts in their wedding dress and tuxedo or cutting a cake topped with a doughnut bride and groom, Dani and Dave successfully mix business with pleasure.

Science and Environment - Connecticut Naturalist

by Will Michael

MID-SUMMER is a good time to observe Connecticut cicadas emerge from underground and shed their juvenile exoskeleton. There are a variety of different species of cicada, the most famous being the periodical cicada that emerges every 17 years in the mid-Atlantic states along the northeastern United States. However, each year Dog-Day Cicadas arrive in smaller numbers throughout New England.

Watch the cicadas emerge inside!

Nick's One-Eyed Pig dinner.

Who says Northerners can't barbecue? That's slowly becoming our mantra here at Sizzle Grove, as we develop our own Connecticut barbecue recipes and visit awesome establishments in the Connecticut and New York areas. Recently we had a chance to visit Newtown, Connecticut's The One-Eyed Pig, previously a blue collar bar which, since July 2010, has been transformed into a great barbecue joint.

AFTER 10 YEARS OF BRAINSTORMING, planning, fundraising and location scouting, Newtown, Connecticut will have refuge for displaced skateboarders in a new skate park set to open this fall.

In her two years as Newtown Parks and Recreation Director, Amy Mangold recognized the need for a skate park and made the project a specific goal of her administration.

“The skaters in Newtown have had no facility to participate and were always getting chased out of areas for skating,” Mangold said.  She said it was one of her desires as director to incorporate these alternative styles of activity into traditional programming.

#13: The Old Sign Welcoming People into New York on I-84

The only sign that I miss more than the one for the Danbury Fair Mall is the one they used to have at the border of Danbury and New York.  What a great piece of work!

#12: The Old Sign at the Danbury Fair Mall

It certainly hasn’t been so long that many have forgotten, but remember the old sign for the Danbury Fair Mall?  The big, round, colorful one that has been replaced with the drab, Westchestery new one?

#11: Ex-Danbury Hockey team “The Trashers”

Let’s face it, how many cities in the United States, in the world, would name their only professional sports team after the town dump.  Just one—Danbury.

The worst house I have ever been in, personally, is the punk house on Triangle Street in Danbury.
